Bubbies, Zaidies
and Babies Bring your grandchildren to Bubbies, Zadies and Babies where they can learn about and celebrate the Jewish Holidays, play, sing songs and learn Jewish values together. Congregation Shaarey Zedek and the Jewish National Fund Manitoba/Saskatchewan Branch Presents Come celebrate the community-wide Tu B’ Shevat Family event with Congregation Shaarey Zedek and the Jewish National Fund on Sunday, February 5th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the newly renovated Manitoba Children’s Museum at the Forks. You will enjoy a fun-filled afternoon including creative nature inspired arts & crafts activities, plant your own tree to take home, a museum-wide scavenger hunt and other exciting games, delicious snacks, and access to the entire Children’s Museum! You will also sample the seven species of fruit from the Tu B’Shevat Seder and learn all about Israel’s Arava Valley and the KKL-JNF Acacia Project. Family Friendly Sanctuary Our sanctuary is more family friendly than ever! In addition to our friendly and welcoming ushers, a play area with toys is now located at the back of the sanctuary, complete with plush Torahs, picnic tables and Shabbat themed books. B’nai
Mitzvah Education It may seem a long time away, but if your child will become of age (boys 13, girls 12) within the next four years, it is time to book a date for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Shaarey Zedek has developed a B'nai Mitzvah program that will ensure your child will be confident and well-prepared to ascend the Bimah on that wonderful day. His/her preparation will begin with a mandatory program for kids only that supports their explorations of what it means to become Bar/Bat Mitzvah and to be a Jew in today’s world. Weekly individual Maftir and Haftarah lessons with our tutors will begin approximately seven to eight months before the simcha. And two to three months before, he/she will begin weekly meetings with Rabbi Green. Together, they will develop the meaningful presentations he/she will give at the Bar/Bat Mitzvah. Your child’s learning doesn’t have to end when the lights are turned out after the Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration ends. Shaarey Zedek offers continued growth and involvement in our Post-B’nai Mitzvah program and/or Junior Chazzanim group, and with ongoing participation in our Shabbat and daily services. Further InstructionsPost-B’nai Mitzvah Education for the Real World With Rabbi Lawrence PinskerThis group will meet weekly, beginning on Wednesday, October 6 at 5:45 PM There’s a famous poster that says: “This life is a test. It is only a test. If this had been a real life, you would have received further instructions as to where to go and what to do.” Sometimes life really feels that way. But Judaism teaches that we received “further instructions” on how to live in spite of the existence of a lot of distracting, confusing, and frightening attitudes and events. Whatever Jewish education you may have received, we’re pretty confident that it probably didn’t go into those “further instructions” because somebody thought you weren’t mature enough to understand them. We think you’re ready now. If you had your Bar/Bat Mitzvah in 2006 to 2009, we invite you to join us. There’s no homework, no written essays, no exams—just a great group of young people examining issues that interest them, evaluating whether and how some of the tools Judaism has provided to us can help us understand real-life events and situations. This group will meet weekly and begin with a light dinner followed by the evening’s activity. There is no fee for this program. For planning purposes we ask that you register by calling 452 3711 x453 a few days before each meeting to let us know your are coming. |

Junior Chazzanim GroupWednesdays at 4:30 PM The Junior Chazzanim group is a great way for those who have had their Bar or Bat Mitzvah to continue learning and being a part of services. Participants will be inspired by Chazzan Aníbal Mass through learning new tunes and will be provided with vocal coaching to build on their skills. We will meet weekly to practice and prepare for monthly Friday night Kabbalat Shabbat services. Members and non-members. Free. Dinner served weekly. |
