Grand Marnier Strawberries
Joel Lafond, Executive Chef with the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue Catering Department
It is getting to that time of
year when winter seems to be going on for ever and it is tougher to get
out of that warm and cozy bed in the morning. I have to do a recipe with
nuts or berries in honour
of Tu B’ Shevat. Last time I did something with nuts, so this time I
thought I would do something with berries. As you probably all know, the
cost and quality of fresh fruits and vegetables is not at its best right
now and could remain that way for a while. This is a very simple recipe
for strawberries that can be used even if the strawberries don’t look
their best.
Yield: Serves 4
Ingredients
|
500 ml (2 cups) |
Fresh Strawberries |
|
30 ml (2 tbsp) |
Grand Marnier or any
orange liqueur |
|
125 ml (1/2 cup) |
White Sugar |
|
|
Zest of 1/2 an Orange,
chopped slightly |
Method
Combine all ingredients in
a bowl and taste to see if you think you need more sugar or more
liqueur. This makes a quick, light dessert that can be served with
whipped cream—or even chocolate would be nice. You may add
blueberries to the mix as well. Use your imagination and have fun.
Spring is on its way, but not soon enough.
