Leon Isenberg wasn’t a
member of Shaarey Zedek, and yet, in a way he was. Leon entertained
the Adult Leisure group for many, many years. He was a professional
entertainer, having played the piano nightly, at Rae and Jerry’s
Lounge, until he retired. Leon turned his talents to entertaining
senior citizens all over the city. His warmth, charm and sense of
humor added to his gifted playing of the keyboard. Harold Fleishman
played the saxophone or David Diamond, vocalist, always accompanied
him. They were his long time friends. When these talented men got
together on stage it was just magic.
Leon’s favorite song,
which we always requested him to sing, was ‘It’s a wonderful world’.
Even though Leon struggled with poor health for many years, it never
stopped him from performing. He always made us feel that it is a
wonderful world. Leon died on
August 26, 2007.
We are grateful for the
many hours of pleasure he gave us. We will truly miss him.
