A few
months ago, Fran Saunderson, a pianist, came to entertain our group.
I welcomed her into the Synagogue, and she immediately asked me if I
knew Hannah Steindel and would Hannah be attending our program. I
told her yes, Hannah was already here and I would go and find her.
This
precipitated a fond reunion between two old friends. They hadn’t
seen each other for many years. Their lives had taken different
paths.
Hannah
and Fran met at a meeting of the Phoenix Club. Fran’s aunt and
grandmother were members. It didn’t take long for their friendship
to grow until they felt like family to one another. In fact, David,
Hannah’s husband, was asked to speak at Fran’s grandfather’s
funeral.
Fran’s
father was a minister. They were a true Christian family. However,
it was Fran’s aunt who encouraged Hannah to study her own religion,
Judaism. As a result, Hannah became a true daughter of our faith. |
